Therapy for men in Inverness, Highlands
Our therapy for men service – located in the centre of Inverness, Highlands – will work with you, or someone you know, in a man friendly way. We believe this is necessary because research suggests that men often find it hard to seek help and experience and engage with therapy in a very different way to women.
Why do men seek help?
Although men often have the same difficulties as women (e.g. depression, anger, eating and body issues, and self-harming) they generally deal with these very differently to women. For instance, they may drink alcohol to excess or take substances, work excessively or use pornographic material in order to cope.
Will therapy be different for men?
We find that many men come for therapy to address a specific problem or goal. Because of its helpfulness in solving problems and achieving goals, we find that Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a popular approach among our male clients. When working with a male client, our experienced practitioners will be aware of a number of potential issues specific to men, such as resistance to therapy due to socialisation. We will not push you to talk about your feelings if this makes you feel uncomfortable, nor will we make assumptions about what you know, express, or feel. We will however help you become aware of and acknowledge any uncomfortable feelings which underlie your problem.
If you would like to know more about our therapy for men service or would like to book an appointment with one of our practitioners, please contact us.
