Services for international students

Leaving home and becoming more independent can be a huge challenge for many students who may struggle with stress, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. International students may find that they face additional challenges and struggles.

Why might an international student struggle with mental health?

  • Being further from home reduces access to a person's support network of family and friends.
  • It can be difficult to adjust to a new culture and new life values.
  • It can be hard to express yourself in another language, particularly in social settings. This can lead to difficulties making friends.
  • There can be additional family pressures and costs to study abroad can be high.
  • You may not understand how to seek help and may worry about how to express your feelings in another language.

Support for international students

There is usually some support for mental health issues provided by universities and colleges, however the level of support can vary. Students can also worry about telling their university about their struggles.

We can help if you would like to speak to someone who is independent of your educational institution. Just refer yourself to us and we can book you in for your first session.
