Kay's way of working

Kay is an empathetic and supportive practitioner who works from a person-centred perspective, aiming to build a strong therapeutic relationship with each client. She offers a range of counselling and coaching options including: Mindfulness Based Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Story Guided Therapy  and tailors her approach to meet the individual needs and preferences of each client. 

Kay often makes use of story guided discussion and metaphor to assist clients in viewing a situation from a new perspective. 
 

Kay's background and training

Kay has been a practising counsellor since 2013 and also has several years' experience of working in a specialist mental health mentor role supporting university students who are experiencing mental health issues. In addition she worked as a faculty manager for a university department that provided counselling courses. While training to be a counsellor, Kay worked in a number of placement roles including for a charity supporting older adults, with a charity working in family mediation, and in an NHS setting offering pastoral care. In addition, Kay co-founded a support group for women who had experienced the loss of a baby. 

Prior to training as a counsellor, Kay worked as a legal PA/secretary. 

Kay has a BA(Hons) in Pastoral Counselling & Psychology (Open University). She has also achieved Clinical Foundation Level 1 in Story Guided Therapy and has a Certificate in Working with Bereavement and Complex Grief.

Kay is a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
